« Bernard Buffet The Great », is the title chosen by the MAD Museum of Art & Design Singapore for the exhibition of 25 paintings mostly from the collection of Nicolas Buffet, son of the artist, presented in Singapore from January 21 to February 29, 2016.
Since his first exposure and his public consecration in the late 1940s, Bernard Buffet had a eventful career. Having been the privileged witness of a great part of this adventure, I can say that there has always been a dichotomy between the public image and the artistic work. This dauntless artist with his excessive temper, his unique and ultimately unclassifiable artistic style will forever leave his singular mark on the art of the second half of the twentieth century. It is clear today with the return to the center stage of a powerful figurative art that he continues to be part of our contemporaneity.
